Richard Matheson is the author of the novel, Bid Time Return, which was later renamed and turned into a movie in 1980: Somewhere In Time.  He came up with the idea for this story when he saw a portrait of the American actress Maude Adams in Piper’s Opera House in Nevada and fell in love with her.  He imagined himself going back in time to meet her and created this novel.
Is it possible to travel through time?  Here is what we know.

Einstein came up with the theory in 1935, quantum entanglement, which he called, ‘Spooky action at a distance,’ and this is a strange phenomenon where two particles from the same source or body, can be separated by miles, countries, or even flown to the moon, and whatever action is done to one will instantaneously affect the other.  This is real and proven and no one can explain why.  Are the particles speaking to each other?  Or is the information ingrained in the particles already?
I have heard this occurs with blood samples from the same body and twins separated at birth who are reunited.  Most experiments are done on tiny particles like protons that are split in half because it is easier to put them in a controlled environment, monitored, and the experiment repeated.
Not only this, but particles know if the detector is on or off and that they are being watched.  This is called the Observer effect and best demonstrated with the double-slit experiment.  When the machine is on they look like particles and when it is off they act like waves.
Quantum teleportation is the transfer of information from one location to another, but not in the physical form.  What is done to one electron here affects another electron over there.  The question is, can this be done with people through entanglement?  Can people transport their souls to another person through meditation or dreams in an instant?  Or travel through time?  But the soul would just be an observer and not be able to make physical changes in the world.
So it may have been possible for Richard Matheson to travel through time to meet Maude Adams after all.
